Writing on craft, authorship,
and what the tools cannot do.
Long form analysis on AI in production and academia. We publish to a strict standard of accountability, where errors remain on record with formal corrections, and claims are backed by active research.

From this site
Pieces written here, in full, rather than summarised from elsewhere.
The 4Ds: deciding what to hand to a tool
Delegate, Describe, Discern, Diligence. Most advice about AI in filmmaking is organised around what the tools can do, which is the least durable thing about them. This is the question that survives the next release.
40 Years of Silence, taken apart
A feature documentary broken down stage by stage: the workflow, where an AI-assisted review pass genuinely helped, and the points at which it was deliberately kept out. Includes the ethics position in full.
What AI cannot do in filmmaking
Eighteen documented limitations across six clusters, gathered from practice rather than argument, with a 4Ds studio for deciding what to delegate. Runs as a live instrument rather than an essay.
The research programme
Doctoral work on film education reform at Bournemouth University, and the venture built as the research site rather than studied from the outside.

Editorial Policy & Practice
This section is a house journal, not a tech blog. We publish long form research and field notes on a deliberate cadence, driven by active production schedules and academic term structures rather than daily news cycles. We do not generate copy using AI. If an analysis proves incorrect as tools evolve, the original text stays online with a public correction noted on the record. We document what is actually happening without the hype.
Get new writing when it lands
No schedule, no filler. Only when a tool ships, a claim gets tested, or something turns out to be wrong.
